PRIDE in Paxton's "Historic
Homes Walking Tour" was featured in
Champaign-Urbana's The News Gazette
in the Sunday, August 19, 2007 issue. The
article by Linda Zimmer also featured
interior and exterior photos of the homes.
Ms. Zimmer also wrote a feature article on
Just Hamburgers of Paxton in the dining out
section of The News Gazette's E3
magazine in Friday's edition.
States Attorney Tony Lee formally
announced he would not be seeking
re-election. Matt Fitton of Paxton had
previously announced his intention to run
for the office. Lee plans to assist
his wife with her legal practice in Gibson
City after his retirement.
Illinois Central Railroad Historical Society
held their annual meeting in Paxton this
past weekend. Member and the public
toured the museum located on North Market
Street, attended seminars and a trip to
railroad museum in Monticello, and dined at
an evening dinner with show and tell period.
Other activities were also scheduled over
the three day event.

City Attorney Bob Martensen presented
his response to questions regarding the
Paxton Raffle Ordinance. He also made
suggestions to amend the ordinance. Aldermen
will review the recommendations and further
discuss them at the September Council
meeting. All organizations holding
raffles in Paxton are subject to the
ordinance.
Circuit Clerk will not seek re-election.
Kammy Johnson announced
Monday that she will not seek re-election to
the Ford County Circuit Clerk position she
has held for the past 14 years. She
was famous throughout the area for baking
homemade cookies for the juries.
Mayor announces interest in new subdivision.
Developer wants to add 250 lot subdivision
to the community, but is asking the city to
create a TIF District for the property.
There are currently no TIF Districts in
Paxton.

Nominating
petitions for the February 5,
2008 General Primary Election may be picked
up at the Ford County Clerk's office
starting August 7, 2007. The filing dates
for the February Primary are October 29
through November 5, 2007.
County officers to be nominated are county
board members, circuit clerk, coroner and
states attorney. Precinct committee persons
will also be on the ballot. For more

Theater Group meeting with Paxton
Foundation to discuss possible joint venture
to save the Paxton Majestic Theater
building.

Park District Board authorized
paving and expansion of the Civic Center
parking lot at meeting last week.
Rosenboom Realty announced Todd
Whitaker has joined their firm as real
estate sales associate.
Stephanie Wallace, a licensed
massage therapist, has joined the staff at
Margo's Salon & Day Spa.
Dr.
George A. Bark of Paxton has been
named one of six finalists for the
2007 Family Physician of the Year Award
sponsored by the Illinois Academy of Family
Physicians.
The
Paxton Swedes won the Eastern
Illinois Baseball League regular season
championship. They will be playing in
game one of the EI League Tournament which
begins at 1pm August 5.
