Our
Purpose
P.R.I.D.E. stands for Paxton Revitalization
Initiative for Downtown Enhancement. PRIDE in
Paxton, Inc. was founded in 1993 by local
volunteers as a Charter Member of the Illinois
Main Street Program, which is affiliated with
the National Main Street Network.
Main
Street is a nationwide economic development
program sponsored by the National Trust for
Historic Preservation and is designed to assist
small towns to maintain, strengthen and
revitalize their unique downtown districts. The
Illinois chapter is sponsored by the Lieutenant
Governor's Office.
Our Mission Statement reads as follows:
P.R.I.D.E. in Paxton, Inc. exists to make
Paxton the "Community of Choice" through
volunteer efforts that expand the local
economy, enhance the quality of life,
preserve heritage, and promote progress.
As
our mission statement declares, the goal of
PRIDE is to make Paxton the first choice for
residents, businesses, and visitors as a
place to live, work, shop, and relax. To
accomplish this, PRIDE is involved in many

areas as business retention and expansion,

The Four-Point Approach
PRIDE in Paxton, Inc. follows the National
Main Street Program's Four-Point Approach to
economic development and revitalization.
This proven, incremental approach has been
shown to work in many diverse communities
throughout the nation. This program is not a
quick fix, but a long-term learning process
that establishes a development framework and
provides a community with the tools needed
to strengthen itself from within. In other
words, it focuses on the "Big Picture" not
immediate gratification.
Following this model, PRIDE is made up of
four committees, each addressing one of the
four points: Design, Promotion, Economic
Restructuring, and Organization.
